  • Ad-Hoc Observing
    Not organised observing events, but rather an 'I'm going out tonight'

  • Conference
    Large events that combine several talks, sometimes with trade stands, at an indoor venue

  • Educational
    Educational events designed to help people get more out of astronomy

  • Festival
    Large events with several attractions such as talks, trade stands, observing, workshops etc.

  • Open Evening
    An organisation opens to the public for the evening, usually to attract new members.

  • Planetarium Show

  • Public Observing
    Larger events set up to allow members of the public, without registration, to come and observe

  • Social
    Social events for astronomers that don't necessarily involve doing any actual astronomy.

  • Society Meeting
    A meeting of an astronomy society

  • Society Observing
    Observing nights for members of an astronomical society

  • Solar Observing
    Daytime (obviously!) events involving observing or imaging the Sun.

  • Special
    Events that don't fall into any other category.

  • Star Party
    A residential event in which astronomers stay for a few days and observe in a dark-sky location

  • Talk
    Talks and lectures about astronomy, space and science
