*** THIS EVENT IS NOW CANCELLED DUE TO POOR WEATHER ***

The second Leith Hill Astronomy Festival takes place on 6th May 2012.

Last year’s event attracted over 750 astronomers and members of the public, who enjoyed views of the Sun’s surface, open-air lectures, optics demonstrations, music and of course an evening under the stars at the highest point in Surrey.

Leith Hill is an incredible venue for astronomy, with views of 14 counties by day and almost 14 billion light-years by night.  Enjoy binocular observing from the top of the Leith Hill Tower – where you get 360-degree views of the sky, plus exceptional views to the South where there’s almost no lights as far as the South Downs.

There’s ample on-site parking with a short walk to the top of the hill, plus a servery open for hot and cold drinks and snacks at the tower.  Turn up any time from midday to midnight to be part of the UK’s most exciting astronomy festival!

This year’s star-studded line-up of speakers will be published soon – our unique open-air lectures take place in the natural amphitheatre a few yards down from the tower and guarantee an exhilarating experience for the beginner and seasoned astronomer alike.

The evening’s observing will take place from 8pm and there will be telescopes of all shapes and sizes showing the incredible rings of Saturn, amongst a host of beautiful astronomical sights.

Astronomy societies are welcome too – we’re actively asking local and regional groups to join us for the day to promote astronomy in the area.

To sign up for more information (doesn’t obligate you to come), please ‘book’ below (you’ll need to register on the site if you haven’t already) and we’ll add you to the mailing list for information and updates as the event draws near.

See you at Leith Hill 2012!
