The second and last time Venus will transit in front of the Sun in our lifetimes! On the morning sunrise of the 6th of June, the final Venus transit of this century will take place between sunrise and 05:30hrs BST. For those of us interested in the possibility of viewing this event Mid-Kent Astronomical Society will be running a viewing event on the Isle of Grain. All members and interested parties are invited, please see the location details below. The transit will start on the 5th of June at 23:04 (which we will not of course be able to see). By the time that the Sun rises here (around 04:42) Venus will be on it's way out towards the edge of the Sun's disk. We are meeting in the Car Park at the end of the High Street in Grain from 04:00 onwards, telescopes will be set up on the grass on the seaward side (Eastwards), which should give us an uninterupted view of the Sunrise. The location is High Street, Grain Village, ME3 0BS. Would visitors PLEASE be very considerate of those living in the area when arriving at this time of the morning (avoiding slamming car doors and talking loudly).
