And in Texas, decades before Bigfoot became a household name, residents around Lake Worth reported a mysterious hairy creature that became known as the Lake Worth Monster.

Witnesses described an intimidating figure covered in dark hair, standing upright and emitting a powerful odor.
The sightings attracted national attention and helped establish Momo as one of America’s most famous regional monster legends.
Although no physical evidence has conclusively identified the creature, eyewitness reports continue to generate discussion among cryptozoologists and outdoor enthusiasts.
The Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp
South Carolina’s Lizard Man legend exploded into national headlines during the late 1980s after numerous reports of a large reptilian creature near Scape Ore Swamp.
Witnesses described a muscular, greenish creature with glowing red eyes and remarkable speed.
Several mysterious vehicle damage incidents further fueled public fascination, making the Lizard Man one of the most recognizable cryptid cases in the United States.
Lyle shares his research into the case while discussing how folklore and eyewitness testimony often become intertwined.
Texas’ Lake Worth Monster
Closer to home, Texas has produced its own legendary cryptid.
The Lake Worth Monster became famous during the 1960s after numerous witnesses reported encounters with a large, hairy creature near Lake Worth outside Fort Worth.
Newspaper coverage, frightened residents and repeated sightings quickly transformed the creature into Texas folklore.
Decades later, the mystery continues drawing researchers interested in one of the Lone Star State’s most famous monster legends.
