Sharks have inspired some of the greatest horror movies ever made.
They’ve also inspired countless myths, misconceptions and exaggerated fears.
This October, Dark Outdoors is joining the Gulf Great White Shark Society for Sharks Aren’t So Scary, a public education campaign that separates Hollywood fiction from real-life sharks.
Who better to kick things off than horror host Count Drahoon?
After years of celebrating monster movies—including some of the wildest shark films ever made—Count Drahoon reminds us in our official public service announcement that while fictional sharks make for great entertainment, the real animals are far more fascinating than frightening.
Throughout the month, Dark Outdoors will investigate famous shark encounters, explore the history behind shark fears, separate myth from reality and tell the stories that reveal why these incredible predators deserve both our respect and our protection.
Watch Count Drahoon’s official kickoff PSA, then follow the Gulf Great White Shark Society for the science behind the stories and join us all October as we dive into the darker side of shark history—without losing sight of the truth.
Because sometimes the truth is stranger… and far more interesting… than fiction.
